Flaming Gorge Lake Trout Fishing Guides

We have the best Flaming Gorge Reservoir Lake Fishing Guides.  Whether you are experienced or have never fished before, our knowledgeable guides are sure to make sure your experience is a memorable and successful one!

Meet our Lake Guides:

Brent Hodges

Brent Hodges standing on top of a boat Captain Brent Hodges has been guiding fishing trips for over 20 years. His guide experience began in Alaska, salmon fishing at age 19.  His passion for fly fishing really came to fruition in his home state of Texas. With so many target species he was able to offer his clients a variety of options such as trout and bass on the TX hill country rivers, polling the saltwater flats for reds, and stalking Tarpon near shore. It was there that he also owned and operated a successful fly shop near the Guadalupe River that gave him the freedom to explore the popular waters of Utah in his off-season.

Currently, Brent guides full-time in Utah where he captains 2 different types of vessels. A custom 15ft Steathcraft drift boat that is set up for fly fishing the scenic Green River for trout and holds 2 anglers. His second office is an Idaho boat cabin cruiser made for fishing Flaming Gorge Reservoir for salmon and lake trout. This 22ft custom aluminum boat has ample room for up to 6 anglers, is equipped with all the latest Raymarine electronics, electric downriggers, fish cleaning station as well as a complete cab enclosure with a heater for protection from elements while aboard.

Brent strives to give his clients a memorable day on the water whether you are a newbie or a seasoned pro. Every day is a great day on the water if you are positive and willing to accept that they're just fish. This is a fun sport... not a competitive one!

Dan Bolton

Captain Dan Bolton enjoys showing guests what the Flaming Gorge Reservoir has to offer.  Lake Trout, Kokanee Salmon, Rainbows, Smallmouth Bass, and sightseeing tours.

Climb aboard Captain Dan’s 21-foot covered aluminum fishing boat made by Thunder Jet.  It is powered by a brand-new 225-horsepower Mercury outboard.  The boat is outfitted with everything you need to fish the Flaming Gorge Reservoir.  Downriggers, electric trolling motor, electronics, and a 9.9 hp kicker motor give the fisherman many options.  Trolling and jigging are the most common ways to catch these giants that live here.  Fly fishing for the Lakers is becoming popular as well.  If it is Bass, smaller Trout, and Kokanee you are after, then you will be in the right boat.

Lance Grimshaw

Lance Grimshaw holding a freshly caught fishLance Grimshaw has been a licensed guide on Flaming Gorge Reservoir for the past 5 years.  He was raised around fishing since the time he was old enough to hold a fishing pole.  Lance grew up in Vernal, just south of Flaming Gorge.  He has fished many bodies of water for countless species, but he guides because he purely loves fishing!  He loves the excitement of watching his clients catch their first fish.  He also loves taking clients who want to fish and want to learn everything there is to know about fishing.

He targets mostly lake trout and kokanee salmon, but can also pursue all the other species the Gorge has to offer.  He currently is the only guide to offer open water burbot trips in October and November.  A trip with Lance will consist of him utilizing his years of knowledge to ensure every effort is made to give you a memorable and enjoyable trip to Flaming Gorge.  In addition, Lance loves to cater to children and they are always welcome on his boat.  He believes sharing the love of fishing with the next generation is so important.  He has had the privilege of watching kids grow up with a love for Flaming Gorge when their families bring them year after year.  He has helped young to old, and even wheelchair bound, fill their dreams of catching a trophy fish with memories that will stay with them forever.

Jimmy Cohen

Jimmy Cohen is about as experienced as they come. He has fished from Alaska to Chile and everywhere in between. He has been fly fishing in the Flaming Gorge Area for 41 years! He loves the fishing and community found here at Flaming Gorge. He spent this last winter in Homosassa, Florida fishing the gulf, but returns to Flaming Gorge every summer to throw dry flies on the Lake.

Nate Wirthlin

Nate Wirthlin holding a freshly caught fishA Salt Lake City native, Nate has 20 years of Flaming Gorge fishing under his belt. He most enjoys fishing for Kokanee and Lake Trout, but will pursue Rainbows or Browns if the bite is slow.

Nate says that a perfect day on the water is any day on the water with nice weather, if it happens to be a day with lots of fish… even better! He will always give 100% effort to put fish on the deck.
